The Los Angeles Lakers recently signed second-round draft pick Derrick Caracter a day after inking their other second-round selection Devin Ebanks.
Caracter, a 6-foot-9, 270-pound forward taken at No. 58 pick by the Lakers, was being courted also by several teams overseas before settling on a two-year deal with the Lakers. In the terms, Caracter is guaranteed the rookie minimum of $473,604 in 2010-11 with a team option in place worth approximately $788,000 for the following season.
Plagued by weight, conditioning, and attitude issues at Louisville, many wondered if Caracter even had a future beyond college. But the 22-year-old has shed almost 30 pounds since finishing his junior season at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he averaged 14.1 points and 8.1 rebounds in 27 games with the Miners. Shannon Brown turned down more lucrative offers and agrees to a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers for a shot at a third straight championship.

Los Angeles center Andrew Bynum had a successful arthroscopic surgery to repair partially torn ligament in his knee in New York.
The tear in his meniscus was discovered during the Laker’s first-round series against Oklahoma City but Bynum refused to miss out the postseason and postponed the surgery to a later date. Although the knee injury and a strained Achilles’ tendon limited his movement he was still able to contribute 8.6 points and 6.9 rebounds during the postseason games of Lakers. (more…)
Matt Barnes, 6-foot-7 and 226-pounds, was officially introduced as a Laker. The Los Angeles Lakers signed him to a two-year deal worth approximately $3.6 million.
Prior to his signing with the Lakers, there was an initial agreement between Toronto and Orlando on a sign-and-trade which did not materialized. Later on, Cleveland refused to increase its offer to Barnes which was reportedly worth double of what the Lakers offered. (more…)
The Los Angeles Lakers released a statement about the successful arthroscopic knee surgery on the right knee of the two-time Finals MVP Kobe Bryant due to several media inquiries.
Center Theo Ratliff signs a one-year deal with NBA champions Los Angeles Lakers. He will served as backup to Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum.
Ratliff, a defensive specialist is a 15-year veteran who played last season with San Antonio Spurs and Charlotte Bobcats averaging 3.6 ppg and 3.2 rebounds.
Steve Blake says he agreed to a four-year deal with Los Angeles Lakers.
Blake told Portland radio station 95.5 FM on Friday that he has a four-year deal with the two-time defending champions, who might lose starting point guard Derek Fisher in free agency.
NBA teams can’t sign players until next week.
The veteran point guard could replace the 35-year-old Fisher, who won his fifth title with the Lakers last month but is an unrestricted free agent. Fisher said he would like to return to the Lakers, but could be looking for a bigger deal than the team could offer.

The new crowned 2010 NBA Champions Los Angeles Lakers will celebrate this year’s victory parade with not too much flares.
It will be a compact and scaled down championship parade to cut on costs and scheduled to stream through the streets of downtown Monday.
This year’s celebration will begin at Staples Center and make its way down Figueroa Street to the edge of the University of Southern California campus. Fans will still have a chance to celebrate with the team. Players are expected to address the crowd from a sound-equipped flatbed float instead of making speeches at large crowd rallies which was done last year.
[UPDATE] Los Angeles Lakers became NBA Champion once again beating the Celtics 83-79. After trailing most of the game, Lakers regain control in the last quarter thru the efforts of Kobe Bryant (Finals MVP), Paul Gasol and Ron Artest. It has been a sweet victory for the team at their home court witnessed by the an estimated 19,000 fans at Staples Center.
It’s a sweet revenge for the Lakers getting back at Celtics who won the 2008 Finals series. It is also the 16th title of the franchise, one shy of tying arch-rival Celtics. In the span of 11 years, Los Angeles Lakers has won their 5th championship and they are aiming for the 3-feat next season to duplicate what they have accomplished from 2000-2002.
Boston Celtics leads the NBA Finals series 3-2 against Los Angeles Lakers. Celtics relentlessly displayed their aggressiveness and double-teaming efforts for any attacking Lakers in winning game 5 92-86.
Except for Kobe Bryant, no other Lakers player scored a double figure compared with the Celtics team.
